Howdy Friends,
Lately, I’ve noticed something while scrolling through social media. There’s a flood of posts that feel lifeless. You know the kind that are perfectly formatted, stacked with hashtags, and yet completely empty. They say nothing. They feel like…nothing.
This morning, two posts popped up in my feed. One was stiff and formal, the other raw and real. The stiff one smelled like it had been written by a robot…generic text, polished graphics, no heartbeat. The real one had a few rough-around-the-edges jobsite photos and honest thoughts from the person who posted it. It felt real, connected.
We can all feel it when the writer of a post has a pulse or an algorithm.
I’m not anti-AI. It’s here to stay, and when used wisely it can save time and spark ideas. But if you hand over your voice to a tool, you’ll lose the very thing that makes your business work: your personal brand. Your customers don’t hire a machine; they hire you.
I’ve let AI help me write a few (or more) posts lately, and the results were disappointing. The quality was great to start with, but then started to a general decline. Engagement slowly dropped off. The posts looked fine on the surface, but people didn’t connect with them. They would hardly comment or share. They just scrolled on by.
People don’t connect with bots. Not in content, not in comments, not on phone calls. People want to connect with people who understand their problems and can think creatively to solve them.
If you sound like a bot online, they won’t want to connect with you in real life.
So why not write your own content? I know the excuses…no time, no energy, no ideas. But it’s a bigger waste of time to crank out low-quality filler than to create a few strong, personal posts. High-quality content, even if it’s less frequent, wins every time.
People don’t buy generic or volume. They buy you. They buy your story, your values, your expertise.
If they wanted a one-size-fits-all solution, they’d head to Walmart. But they’re looking for someone genuine. That’s what small business is built on. And that’s exactly what AI can’t replicate unless you train it with your own voice and heart first.
The moment your words stop sounding like you, your marketing stops working. And that’s something no one wants to happen.
So here’s my challenge: write something real this week. Skip the hashtags and the filters. Snap a few photos from the jobsite. Share what actually happened. What you learned. What you’re proud of. Talk like you would to a friend over coffee.
AI can write text. Only you can write with feeling.
Later, Chad Beachy
